Sympathy & Goodbye Flowers
Nothing is more important than family members and friends to feel that the flowers they have chosen to say goodbye reflect their loved one’s life and interests - and their own love for them too. Taking care to choose flowers that are special and mean something is a last, very special, act of love.
All our sympathy and goodbye work reflects this love, starting with the flowers which are naturally grown, mostly by us (and never imported) to tell your loved one’s story in the most beautiful way possible. Our work is loose and soft, with a garden gathered aesthetic, always reflecting the generosity and healing power of nature throughout all the seasons.
Sustainability is at the heart of what we do and how we grow, ensuring that our flowers contribute positively to the environment before they honour your loved one. Many of our clients say how much their loved ones adored flowers, nature, gardens and gardening and how much they want to reflect this in their goodbye flowers. They find our work, ethos and flowers a natural fit. All our funeral work is as sustainable as possible, using no floral foam.
We make up coffin sprays and sheaths, arrangements or vases for church, crematorium and home, as well as posies for distribution for the family.
We have lovely ideas throughout all the seasons to create the most beautiful goodbyes possible. If we can help you to do so, please get in touch.

“We cannot express how wonderful and uplifting your beautiful flowers were; Mum was surrounded by the most exquisite garden of delicate florals.”
“I spent quite a while after the funeral just drinking in the delicacy and crispness of the narcissi and the exquisite swirls of the tulips”
“Where to start? A-ma-zing! Perfection! Spectacular! Thank you for helping me turn a sad occasion into an uplifting one - a celebration of Mum.”
The Farewell Flowers Directory
RHS Chelsea Flowers, 2025, as seen in The Times.
Here at Hortus, we are proud members of The Farewell Flowers Directory, a not-for-profit organisation founded last year with the aim of removing plastic floral foam and single-use plastics from funeral floristry, while also demonstrating how beautiful and personal funeral flowers can be.
We see flowers as a celebration of life, and it has been a joy to see this sentiment echoed by the judges at Chelsea 2025, who awarded The Farewell Flowers installation a well-deserved Gold Medal. A reverent and exciting conversation has begun: remembrance, beauty, and sustainability can exist in harmony.
In May of 2025, our design and farm were featured in The Times (pictured left, captured by Zachary Culpin) for The Farewell Flowers Directory showcase.
