Our flowers
Our ethos
Our flowers bring their life well lived and their joyfulness into the vase with them which soon becomes utterly addictive.
They are grown mainly in the open, on south-facing fields that have not received chemical fertiliser for over 50 years, deep in Hampshire. They share this setting with our chickens, local wildlife and sheep, with much of the land left as natural habitat for biodiversity.
The flowers we grow support birds, bees, and other vital insect life before they enhance ours. When their life is over, they are returned to the land as compost to support the cycle of life once more.
Many of the flowers on our kitchen tables, with some honourable exceptions, have a dubious ethical and environmental footprint. We spend £2.2 billion a year in the UK on flowers, almost all imported with incumbent flower miles, despite having a climate that can produce wonderful flowers for more than nine months of the year.
Thankfully, there is a brave and ever-growing band of flower growers determined to change that, whom we are delighted to join.
Our flowers have no air miles; which have significant environmental costs. All our packaging is compostable and recyclable. We use seaweed gel to support our flowers when using overnight couriers. We consider the closed-loop philosophy wherever we can. We never use flower foam in our arranging; we espouse traditional methods instead.
We use a peat-free soil conditioner made from green waste to mulch and condition our beds, along with our own homemade compost and compost teas. We do not use chemical insecticides or pesticides on our flowers.
